From the publisher

A black obsidian scrying mirror about 11.75 to 12 inches across, from Mexico. Black obsidian is a natural volcanic glass. Polished obsidian mirrors were made in Aztec Mexico, and the 16th-century English scholar John Dee owned one, now in the British Museum.
